At key stage 3, pupils take ‘end of year’ internal examinations in Year 7 and Year 8. These examinations are used to assess and monitor progress along with other data collected over the year. As they reach Year 9, pupils take their final key stage 3 examinations before starting their option subjects.

At key stage 4, pupils will take a series of internal and external examinations. It should be noted that all external examination dates are set by awarding bodies, and cannot be changed. Nearly all examinations at Cwmtawe are awarded by the Welsh Joint Education Committee (WJEC).

In order to enter examinations, all pupils are assigned a Unique Learner Number (ULN). Please read our privacy notice for the use of ULNs.

All external examinations are governed by the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ). Pupils must always adhere to the regulations and guidance set out by the JCQ.

Our Examinations Policy contains details on the conduct of examinations and our internal appeals procedure.
