At Cwmtawe Community School we aim to deliver the very best personalised learning experiences, enabling our children to have the confidence and self-belief to succeed; to become secure, life-long learners who have a positive impact on the world around them.

Curriculum Principles

Our curriculum:

1. Places well-being at the heart of learning, by working collaboratively to support each other; to be kind, empathetic, tolerant and respectful towards ourselves and others.

2. Develops a culture of lifelong learning, whereby pupils are curious and motivated and are able to think critically, and independently for themselves.

3. Equips our children with the experiences, skills and knowledge to thrive and be resourceful in our diverse, ever-changing world.

4. Provides a flexible, personalised learning environment to meet the needs and aspirations of every child, enabling them to progress at their pace and identify their next steps in learning.

5. Inspires and challenges, providing pupils with real life contexts to be creative and enterprising.

6. Broadens and deepens pupils’ knowledge and understanding to develop a complex understanding of concepts. Enabling them to make connections, to revisit concepts and apply their knowledge and skills to different situations independently.

7. Refines pupils’ application of existing skills and develops new and more sophisticated skills.

8. Builds childrens’ mental and emotional well-being, by developing their self-awareness, self-regulation, resilience and empathy to overcome challenges.

9. Provides regular opportunities for pupils to explore the importance of living a healthy lifestyle through diet, physical activity and mental health and well-being.

10. Develops pupil participation in decision making and democracy, ensuring they are aware of their responsibilities and rights.

11. Gives children a sense of belonging to our school, our community and the wider world. Through ‘cynethin’ to embrace their Welsh identity, language, culture and heritage and to appreciate these features in other countries.

12. Develop pupils’ awareness of their role as global citizens, to be responsible for the sustainability of our planet for future generations.
